Samoa holiday destinations offer the most authentic experiences in the South Pacific - there are only a handful of luxury beach resorts (motorised water sports are discouraged) but lots of traditional beach bungalows around the islands and several excellent hotels in Apia Town which is a popular base. The charm of Samoa lies in its traditional culture, friendly people, breath-taking and accessible coastal and mountain scenery and, of course, the pristine beaches and year-round tropical sunshine.
Samoa is the cheapest of the main South Pacific islands and budget travellers will get by comfortably on ST$100 per day, or about US$30 (beer money extra). A luxury beach holiday will cost from ST$300 per day or just US$90. American Samoa is a lot more expensive with a minimum of US$100 needed for a basic holiday.

Independent Samoa has a population of just 160,000 living on the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii. There are lots of gorgeous beaches, some excellent coastal walks, traditional villages and a rich living culture. There is a good range of accommodation on both islands although getting about can be difficultn unless you hire a car.
It's possible to see the main attractions on Upolu and Savaii each on a circle island day tour - but a week is highly recommended to absorb the essence of the islands.
If you want to venture to neighbouring American Samoa, you'll need a minimum of two days (one night) on the main island of Tutuila and an optional two days (two nights) to visit the exceptional beaches and archaeological sites of the Mounu Group.
